Judy Hart is a professional actor (SAG and AEA) who moved to New York and then to New Jersey. Before this, she completed a higher education journey that began at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, continued at Ohio University, and culminated in earning a BFA in theatrical performance from UNL in 1975. After relocating to Lincoln in 1989, she worked as faculty at Nebraska Wesleyan, UNL, and Doane College. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg regarding her involvement in and contributions to our community. In 1991, Hart started working as a teaching artist with Arts Are Basic, a Lied Center outreach educational collaboration with classroom teachers. There she met fellow artists Sherry Cole Weber and Pippa White Lawson. Together, they created Angels Theatre Company after a conversation in which they said they didn’t see their stories represented on stage. The organization continues today with a very active event calendar. She is also an 2025 inductee to the Nebraska Performing Art Hall of Fame. She has also celebrated an incredible professional career appearing in such movies as: About Scmitt, Citizen Ruth, Lovely Still, Judy Hart is a true co-creator. She’s been involved with starting a number of projects in and around Lincoln. Two threads run through Judy’s life that help give it meaning and purpose. One is the love of live theater, and the other is community.
Bloody Mary
For decades, Lincoln teenagers whispered about Bloody Mary, a mysterious old woman hidden deep in the woods of North Lincoln. They dared one another to find her darkened farmhouse and the famed "Pig Man", where some swore they saw a ghostly woman dressed in white staring back at them from an upstairs window. Her home sat near 44th & Superior. But Bloody Mary wasn't a ghost. Her name was Mary Partington, and she was very much alive. What began as teenage folklore became something far more terrifying: trespassing, violence, gunfire, and eventually death. The house is gone now, consumed by fire decades ago. But the legend survived—and some still claim Mary's spirit wanders the secluded land where she once desperately wanted only to be left alone. Perhaps you might be the one who wants to be left alone...
